Flight Log - 2015-06-07 - Rick Barnes's Argo

This was an unfinished build that I started in the early '90s, but only recently finished.  Its been modified slightly with the addition of a dorsal intake to make it look more like a jet.  I cut a segment of BT50 tube and trimmed it to sit a slight angle on top of the wing extensions along the main body tube, so it had a small gap at the front.  The rear was filled/sanded to have a flush transition to the main body, then I cut small strakes from balsa scrap and inserted them into the opening.  The whole thing was then sanded and painted.  The original decals were lost (later found applied to another rocket), so the markings on it were done by Sharpie marker.  The canopy came out pretty well, I thought, considering it was all freehand.  I've since purchased replacement decals from Excelsior and have done a bit more filling/blending, then a nice repaint.  Its now a candy apple metallic red, and looks great with the new decals!
