Flight Log - 2015-06-07 - Ken E. Coyote's Super Viper

Stock build of the hard to find Super Viper.  Looks great and fun build!

Flight Date: 2015-06-07
Rocket Name: Super Viper
Flyer's Name: Ken E. Coyote
Motors: D12-3
Expected Altitude: 500.00 Feet
Wind Speed: 3.00 mph
Launch Site: Pine Island NY (Metra Rocket Club)
Actual Altitude: 350.00 Feet

Maiden flight!  First attempt was not good due to bad igniter (my third "new" Estes igniter failure...hate the new white stuff).  Replaced barely-burnt igniter and off we go!  Nice fast liftoff; however rocket immediately started arching over up towards the cockpit (much like the Saki and other oddrocs with a lot of upper stuff hanging out in the wind). Parachute came out at ejection; however chute didn't open (I had earlier concerns about the chute since it wasn't like any other chute I've seen before...looks like it's made of cellophane like the stuff used to cover gift baskets...a bit too stiff for my liking and I dusted heavily with baby powder).  Rocket came down fairly flat and landed without damage in soft dirt.  Post-flight inspection reveals all the dog barf was still in the tube (not too much was put in too), so it may have also had an engine with a weak ejection charge.  May have been a bunch of bad luck on this flight; however no damage and a flight you can walk away from with an undamaged rocket is a good flight. :)  *EDIT* - After I got home, I removed the spent D12-3 and noticed that half of the clay cap was still intact...to me, that is confirmation of a weak ejection charge.
