I had been holding off flying this big tube fin rocket because of the winds at altitude.  Things had seemed to calm down as the afternoon got late so I hooked everything up and let it go.  Awesome boost!  Roared off the rail on a big column of smoke and sparks with a great echo off the trees.  Arcing into the wind at the top of the climb I could already see it drifting.  Saw the event at apogee, but lost track of it.  Several folks had eyes on it and eventually I picked it up moving pretty good with the wind.  Good main chute at 700' (looked higher to me).  Rocket came down off the field about 25 feet into the edge of the adjacent woods.  Got a ride out to is from one of the locals and was able to pick out all the pieces draped across the canopy of the low trees next to the field.  Managed to crawl through the brush to where the booster was and pull it down.  I tried to open the quicklink, but it was stuck and I didn't have any pliers.  Finally was able to work the shock cord knot loose and disconnect the booster.  Someone else had managed to reach the nose cone/payload section and pull the rest of the rocket out from that end.  Got a ride back to the car and gave everything a look over.  No damage noted, sometimes you get a little bit of good luck, I'll take it.  Perfectflite MAWD reported apogee of 3578 feet and the Stratologger reported 3615 feet.  Great end to day 1 of Turkey and GRITS 2017
