Flight Log - 2019-09-07 - Matthew Bond's Estes Air Commander

Large two stage rocket with 24mm motor mounts and military style markings.  I modified mine to allow for “E”  motors and upgraded the shock cord system with a length of Kevlar cord.

Flight Date: 2019-09-07
Rocket Name: Estes Air Commander
Kit Name: Estes - Air Commander {Kit} (003219)
Flyer's Name: Matthew Bond
Motors: E12-0/D12-5
Wind Speed: 4.00 mph
Launch Site: SEARS

Had this one on the pad on the last day at NARAM 61 but just ran out of time on the range.  Finally got it up today.  Absolutely outstanding boost, dead straight off the rod,  dead straight at staging, way up there!  Saw the tracking smoke and was able to keep track of the chute off and on during the descent.  Chute seemed fouled as it got lower.  Booster landed behind the LCO tent, sustainer landed on the sod.  No damage to booster, kevlar portion of the shock cord had torn down into and wedged in the top of the sustainer BT.  Obviously a 5 second delay was the wrong choice.  This one will be repaired, I need to see that again!
