Flight Log - 2019-10-06 - Matthew Bond's Estes Mega Der Pink Max

Estes upscaled Red Max Pro Series II kit.  Added an eyebolt to the top centering ring and replaced the shock cord with 20 feet of braided Kevlar.  Added some balsa "dams" to the motor mount which allowed me to pot the TTW fin tabs in epoxy where they attached to the motor mount.  Currently using a kevlar heat shield and a 30 inch Spherachute for recovery.  Rocket was initially flown "nekkid", but final colors will be pink with a purple nosecone and "Der Pink Max" decals from Stickershock.

Rocket Name: Estes Mega Der Pink Max
Kit Name: Estes - Mega Der Red Max {Kit} (9705)
Flyer's Name: Matthew Bond
Motors: H160-9
Wind Speed: 4.00 mph
Launch Site: Bama Blastoff 2019

Nice strong boost, straight off the rail, fast and high, arcing over at the top of the climb, more or less horizontal at ejection.  deployment of the bundled chute looked good initially, but then the chute inflated at altitude.  fair amount of drift in the wind, still well on the field.  Long recovery walk.  The rubber band holding the chute bundle to the Jolly Logic Chute Release had broken.  The pin was gone so assuming the release worked correctly at 500 feet.
